Investor

The Canadian Ministry of Citizenship and Immigration has designed the Immigrant Investor Program to give experienced business people and senior managers a unique opportunity to immigrate to Canada. By satisfying certain requirements and investing a pre-determined amount of capital in a qualifying Canadian business project, potential candidates can obtain permanent Canadian residency and benefit from dual citizenship. It is essential to inform that the province of Quebec has its own Immigrant Investor Program.

Quebec Investor Immigrant Program (QIIP)

To qualify as an immigrant investor, an applicant must:

  • Have, alone or with his accompanying spouse, including de facto spouse, net assets of at least CDN$800,000 obtained legally, excluding the amounts received by donation less than six months before the date on which the application was filed.
  • Have experience in management in a legal farming, commercial or industrial business, or in a legal professional business where the staff, excluding the investor, occupies at least the equivalent of two full-time jobs, or for an international agency or a government or one of its departments or agencies.
    • We define management experience as the exercise, for at least two years in the five years preceding the application for a selection certificate, of duties related to the planning, management and control of financial resources and of human or material resources under your authority; the experience does not include experience acquired in the context of an apprenticeship, training or specialization process attested to by a diploma.
  • Want to settle in Quebec and sign an agreement to invest CDN$400,000 with a financial intermediary (broker or trust company) authorized to participate in the Investor program.

With Financing

Requires a payment of CDN$120,000 from the Investor. The Investor Immigrant Program at NIMARIA I.T. Co. will arrange with financial intermediaries for the Quebec Program to secure a bank loan of CDN$280,000 on behalf of the Investor. No further payment is required from the Investor. The initial payment of CDN$120,000 is used to pay the interest on the bank loan and other financing charges. No balance is repaid to the Investor at the end of the five (5) year term.

Without Financing

Requires a payment of CDN $400,000 from the Investor. No further payment is required from the Investor. At the end of the five (5) year term, CDN$400,000 is repaid to the Investor.

Canada (Federal) Investor Immigrant Program (FIIP)

To qualify as an immigrant investor, an applicant must:

  • Have minimum two years business experience.
  • Have a legally obtained net worth of at least CDN$800,000; and
  • Indicate in writing to an officer that they intend to make or have made an investment.

To succeed as an Investor Business Immigrant, you have to show that you have a personal net Worth of CDN$800,000. "Personal Net Worth" means that if you were to sell all of your assets (house, lands, business, etc.), you will obtain at least CDN$800,000. However, there is no need to sell any assets. You just have to show that you have that amount AND that you have successfully run a business for 3 years.

As an investor, you must make a prescribed investment of CDN$400,000. This investment is placed with the Receiver General of Canada. Participating provinces then use your investment to create jobs and help their economies grow. Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) will return your investment to you, without interest, in approximately five years after you become a permanent resident.
